A Bold Vision and a Real Plan
Building on my achievements in my first term, my vision going forward is to transform Vallejo into a desirable place to live, work, socialize, run a business, and raise a family. This means fun, bustling urban centers and active public spaces; this means clean, safe, and pedestrian-friendly and bike-friendly streets. And we get there by doing things the right way – growing our community responsibly and equitably (without dislocating our own folks), empowering our residents to take control of what happens in their neighborhoods, and reinvesting in the most neglected parts of our city.
Vibrant Neighborhoods
Improve the cleanliness, livability, accessibility, and overall quality of life in our neighborhoods:
- Establish a Neighborhood Improvement Task Force to address blight and nuisances
- Expand tow company capacity to continue abandoned vehicle abatement
- Apply innovative techniques to expedite the road improvement plan
- Update SeeClickFix
- Expand traffic-calming infrastructure
- Implement an anti-slumlord ordinance
- Pursue state legislation to address illegal squatters
Strong Businesses & Good Jobs
Solicit large-employer firms, sustain our local and small businesses, and prepare our workforce:
- Lead a coalition to bring shipbuilding and clean energy manufacturing
- Collaborate with Cal Poly Maritime, Touro University, our schools, and the County to develop our workforce
- Create a business concierge program and a facade improvement program to support our local and small businesses
- Scale up the Vacant Real Property Registration Program
- Engage owners of vacant or underutilized commercial properties
- Implement a vacant-to-vibrant activation strategy for downtown, the waterfront, and the marina
- Construct road diets, install street furniture, and incentivize mixed-use infill development in commercial areas
- Streamline and reduce the fees for the business and event permitting processes
- Ensure Mare Island development is on track
- Collaborate with Solano County Fairgrounds to bring in music festivals
- Collaborate with social media influencers
Comprehensive Public Safety
Reduce violent and property crimes through law enforcement as well as preventative programs:
- Scale up the “focused deterrence” violence intervention program
- Initiate an Intimate Partner Violence Intervention program
- Continue the Sex Trafficking Reduction Strategy
- Close down “chop shops”
- Establish a cradle-to-career program for our youth and young adults
- Continue to support police recruitment and retention efforts
- Implement police reforms
Housing for our Workforce
Create the conditions for more housing construction and accessibility for all incomes:
- Implement a housing strategy
- Update the Zoning Code
- Continue to pursue tenant protections
- Advocate for more building inspectors
- Continue to streamline the permitting process
- Reduce fees for renovation and new projects on infill sites and near transit
- Create pathways for pre-approved designs
- Lead a multi-agency task force to address the unhoused population on the White Slough
Accountable & Efficient Government
Prioritize work, flatten silos, encourage collaboration, eliminate redundancies, and streamline processes:
- Conduct continuous City-wide performance audits
- Develop a public-facing performance dashboard
- Implement a long-term financial plan
- Create a fair tax formula for Mare Island residents
- Codify strong electoral reforms
- Update the Climate Action Plan
- Hold PG&E accountable
